Can anybody confirm the weight of refrigerant that goes into my 2.8 V6 ghia X air con ?

It's got climate control, with controls for both front and rear on the lcd screen in the front. (can change front and rear temps to within a couple of degrees of each other)

Is it a dual system ? i.e two top up valves ? or top up both via the connector behind the front driver side indicator unit.

The plate reads two seperate refrigerant weights, but not sure if the combined weight should be added through the valve detailed above or whether there is another valve for topping up the rear air con system.

The joker in the garage told me that I should ignore the second refrigerant weight on the plate as my car does not have air con in the back "if it did it would have seperate controls in the back of the car" was his technical analysis !! in the end, i'm sure he didn't put the correct weight of refrigerant in, as it's not as effective as it used to be. (last serviced two years ago)

The reason i ask is i've got it booked in for an air con service on tuesday and i don't want to be fobbed off again if he doesn't believe me.

Do you have vents in the rooflining, as if so you have rear aircon.

It is a single system with an extra evaporator in the back, it all fills up through the same connector.

No grilles in the roof lining, they arrived in 1999 models i think

mine's a dec 1998

it's got grilles in the bulkhead next to the rear near side passenger seat that blows air at feet level.

it's got dual controls for front and rear on the lcd screen in the front.

You've single aircon; I think the correct weight is 900 g +/- 15 g, can anyone confirm?

I'm confused !

if it's only front air con, why the climate control for the rear on the lcd ?

I can set a temperature for the rear and a seperate temp for the front. I can also adjust the fan speed both front and rear. (or just leave the both on auto)

if there's no rear evaporator coil, why offer this level of control for both front and rear ?

D

mind you, it was previously owned by a manager of a ford dealership in coventry. it seems to have all sorts of non standard extras.

electric rear window panels on both sides and an electric sunroof that's never been used !.

I have dual zone climate control but it is a single evaporator system, refrigerant weight is 950g +/- 50g.

Without rear evaporator, control for rear temp is limited to within a few degrees of front for cooling.

electric rear window panels on both sides and an electric sunroof that's never been used !.

Electrically operated rear quarter lights and sun roof was standard on Ghia's and Ghia X 's in 98 in 99 the 2.8 had front and rear AC which meant only one opening rear quarter light as the air duct to the roof vents is in the way of the hinge mech

Are you sure that's right? My gal is a 1999 2.8 GhiaX and has got dual aircon and one rear quarter window as you describe but no sunroof. Is it possible that the original owner requested it without a sunroof?

John

Well mines a 2.8V6 with dual (control) air con and a electric sunroof AND dual electric rear quarter openers !

none of this makes sense !

no way of fitting a sunroof with dual AC as the roof vents get in the way! and dual ac was only available according to the brochures in 99

Lets make this perfectly clear......

MK 1 Models only (i.e. old shape before 2000.75)

DUAL LCD TEMPERATURE CONTROLS DOES NOT MEAN DUAL A/C.

Most galaxies (98-00) fitted with C/C have a dual LCD panel as standard, the rear control bit is just for the rear floor level fan/heater.

AFAIK If your car has the optional dual a/c (which is very rare - IIRC it used to be cost about

That's sorted that out then !

I have dual control, single air con.

bit of a con really, as the rear control allows you to set it a degree or two cooler than the front.....yet with no evapourator coil !

figure that one out !

cheers all

let's see what a difference the air con service on Tuesday makes.

From this topic I get the impression that if you have dual aircon you should not be limited with the temperatures from front to rear. Also does anybody know how to re-callibrate the climate control unit because I don't think the 'Auto' mode is working properly and I don't think the heater flaps are closing correctly. Is re-callibrating the unit even possible? I have VAG-COM by the way if that is needed to re-callibrate it. Also if anybody knows where the outside temperature sensor is that would be really helpful because having driven my sisters 2004 gal mine is sometimes up to 14 degrees out but only in hot weather. For example on one of the really hot days a couple of weeks back my sisters said 29 degrees and mine said 15  Could this be fixed by re-callibrating the c/c unit?

John
